Coffee Dads We Love: Bert Choi of Bertofcoffee on Slowing Down and Cherishing Moments

We’re excited to honor and get to know these amazing and fun-loving Coffee Dads, who continue to wow us with the way they bring their passion for coffee and their commitment to being great fathers to life.

Meet Bert Choi aka @bertofcoffee

You’ve likely seen his images on Instagram–a flying acrobat doing perilous stunts while holding a cup of coffee. That is none other than the infamous Bert Choi aka @bertofcoffee, professional stuntman by day, and coffee stunt-dad extraordinaire by night–and yes, he does all of his own stunts without Photoshop.

That’s something we love about the coffee community on Instagram–seeing how different people inject their passions and personalities into their content. So obviously, we jumped at the chance (pun intended) to interview one of our favorite content creators to find out more about his learnings from being a coffee dad and how he makes content creation a fun experience for his kids too! Check out our conversation below:

ICOSA Brewhouse: Are there any valuable lessons that coffee has taught you about raising kids — or vice versa?

Bert: If there's one thing coffee has taught me, it's to slow down, enjoy the moment and cherish the time. In the fast paced lives we all have today, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and before you know it, life has just zipped by. I'm sure many parents can agree with me when I say our kids grow up way too fast. One of the upsides of the pandemic and being in lockdown is that I was fortunate enough to be able to spend more time with my kids, cherish that time together and enjoy moments that may have otherwise passed me by.

ICOSA Brewhouse: You’re also a man of countless talents, will your kids be following in your footsteps and making appearances in your famous #BertSundayFunday stunts?

Bert: My kids will definitely be making appearances with me in upcoming #BertsSundayFunday stunts. My son has been in a couple and my daughter is now the age where she is extremely active. So don't be surprised if you see either one of them mid-air with me in a gravity defying post sooner than later. On that note however, I think it is great that both of my kids have taken an interest in my coffee hobby and I try to include them whenever I can. Whether it is loading the hopper of a grinder with beans, tamping down an espresso puck or showing me up in pouring latte art, it always brings me joy to see the smiles on their faces when they can participate.

As a parent I’m sure you can relate to Bert’s take on the importance of slowing down and cherishing time with your children while they’re still young. And if you’re courageous enough, don’t be afraid to pull a few stunts with your kids while you’re at it 😆!

Get to know more about Bert by following him on Instagram and follow his #BertSundayFunday, where his kids are bound to make appearances soon!
